Jets WR says team is one QB away from contending, eyes Aaron Rodgers

PHOENIX – New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson believes his team is one quarterback away from being a contender in the AFC. And he has his eyes on one in particular: Aaron Rodgers.

‘He’s like a legend,’ Wilson told USA TODAY Sports at Super Bowl 57 Radio Row at the Phoenix Convention Center. ‘Since I was a young kid I have been watching him play, so it would really be a full circle moment for me if I got to play with him toward the end of his career.’

The Jets finished the season 7-10, missing the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year and dealing with a revolving door at quarterback. Zach Wilson, their second overall pick from 2021, started nine games, while veteran Joe Flacco and Mike White each started four. The trio combined for 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

‘We’ve got some good players in the facility and I’m confident if we bring someone like (Rodgers), we would be right there,’ Wilson said.

Rodgers has not decided his future and whether that will be with the Green Bay Packers or elsewhere.

The Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett, Rodgers’ former offensive coordinator with the Packers, as their new OC, leading many to speculate about the fit with Rodgers.

If Rodgers did come to the Jets, Wilson said he would tell the future Hall of Famer ‘how excited I was to get the opportunity to play with him.’

Wilson is also hopeful quarterback Derek Carr, whose time with the Las Vegas Raiders has neared its end, could land in New York.

In his first season with the Jets, Wilson racked up 1,103 yards and four touchdowns.

‘It was a great season and I’m lucky to have the people that I had around me to keep pushing me,’ he said.
